Shapes are worked out for the strings as they're actually tuned, so DADGAD and open G get real shapes for those tunings instead of standard ones that don't fit. The finder draws the basic major or minor shape; sevenths, sus and add chords show their underlying triad.
The Chartless app runs this same engine live. Play a song from YouTube, your library or the band through the mic, and every chord comes up shaped for your instrument and tuning as it happens.
