Capo chart: what key you're in for every capo fret

Each fret up is one half step. Play the same shapes, sound in a new key.
Short answer: a capo raises every chord one half step per fret. G shapes with a capo on 2 sound in A; on 3, in Bb; on 4, in B. Find your shape in the left column and read across.

Shape + capo = the key you hear

The singer wants it in a different key

Work backwards: pick the key, then the capo and shapes that put it under your hands. Fewer frets up keeps the tone fuller; open-position G, C and D shapes ring the most.

Tips

Let the chart do it

Chartless charts whatever is playing and has a capo advisor: tell it where your capo is (or let it suggest one), and it shows the shapes to play for the song's real key, with Nashville numbers alongside. The live chart is free; the capo advisor is part of Pro.
