Privacy Policy

This policy covers the Chartless Chrome extension and the Chartless iPhone app, both made by CREEDYSOLUTIONS, LLC (Creedy Solutions). The extension listens to the audio of the browser tab you choose — or, in Microphone mode, to your own playing — and displays the chords it detects as an overlay on that tab. The app does the same on your phone from the microphone, from a web player inside the app, or from an audio file you choose, and shows the result as a chart.

What Chartless processes, and where

• Tab audio — captured only after you press Start in the extension popup, and only for that tab. The audio stream is analyzed in memory (pitch and rhythm features) and discarded immediately. No audio is ever written to disk, recorded, or sent over the network. Pressing Stop (or closing the tab) ends the capture.
• Microphone audio (Microphone mode, Pro) — only if you switch the source to Microphone and press Start. Chrome asks for microphone access once; from then on the mic is opened only while you are listening and released on Stop. Same rules as tab audio: analyzed in memory, never recorded, never written to disk, never sent anywhere. Chartless does not play the mic back through your speakers.
• Page text for the AI-likelihood meter — the overlay reads the current page's own title, description, and channel/artist name (and any platform "AI-generated" label) to guess whether the song was AI-made. That reading happens inside the tab, is used only to draw the meter, and is not stored or transmitted. You can turn the meter off in the popup.
• Chord sheets you export — the PDF is generated inside your browser from the chords in the ribbon and saved to your Downloads folder. Nothing is uploaded.
• Detection results — the chords, key, tempo, and chord-progression patterns detected for a song may be cached locally in your browser's extension storage so the next play of the same song locks in faster. This data never leaves your device.
• Your settings — mode, presets, instrument choice, overlay position. Stored locally in your browser's extension storage only.

The iPhone app

• Microphone — iOS asks once. The microphone is open only while Listen or the tuner is running and is released when you stop. Audio is analyzed in memory and discarded; nothing is recorded or sent anywhere.
• Browser source — the app contains a web browser. When you press Chart this page, the audio the page is already playing is analyzed on the phone. The page's own title, description, channel name, publish date, and any platform "AI-generated" label are read to draw the optional AI-likelihood pill and the "find chart" search; none of that is stored or transmitted by Chartless. The browser itself works like any browser: the sites you visit set their own cookies and see your visit under their own policies. Settings › Clear browser history & data wipes it.
• Audio files — a file you pick is copied into the app's private storage so the chart can play it back later. It stays on the phone. Deleting the song from Recent Songs deletes the copy.
• Charts and settings — the songs you chart (title, link or file, key, tempo, chords), your instrument, tuning, and other settings are stored on the phone only. No iCloud sync, no account.
• Shared links — using the share sheet to send a link to Chartless hands the app the link and nothing else.
• Subscriptions — purchases go through Apple. Chartless receives a receipt that says a subscription is active; it never sees your payment details or your Apple ID email.
• No analytics, no crash reporting services, no third-party SDKs.

The App Store launch list

If you enter your email on the iPhone app page, it is stored on our server (chartless-license.creedysolutions.workers.dev) with the date and the page it came from, and used for one purpose: emailing you when the app is available. It is not shared, sold, or added to any other list, and it is deleted after the launch email goes out. To be removed sooner, email [email protected] from that address.

Affiliate links (Strings)

The Strings feature in the iPhone app, the Strings page on this site, and the extension's link to that page recommend string sets and link to Amazon and Sweetwater. Those are affiliate links: as an Amazon Associate, Chartless earns from qualifying purchases, and Sweetwater pays a commission the same way. The link passes through our server so the click can be counted (merchant, date, which set, and whether it came from the app or the site) and so the affiliate code never has to ship inside the app. No personal information is attached to the click. What you do on the merchant's site is governed by their privacy policy.

What Chartless does not do

• No audio recording, storage, or transmission — ever.
• No collection of personal information of any kind.
• No analytics, telemetry, tracking pixels, or third-party services.
• No accounts and no sign-ins. During listening and chord display neither the extension nor the app makes any network requests (the app's browser source excepted — the web page you're playing loads as it normally would).
• No modifying of page content. The overlay is drawn on top of the page. The only page text the extension reads is the song's title/description/channel for the optional AI-likelihood meter, described above — never form fields, never anything you type.

Chartless Pro licensing (the one exception)

If you activate a Chartless Pro license key or start a free trial, the extension makes a single request to our license server (chartless-license.creedysolutions.workers.dev). That request contains exactly two things: your license key (or nothing, for a trial) and a random install identifier generated by the extension. No audio, no song data, no browsing information, no personal details. The server answers with a signed entitlement token that the extension verifies and stores locally. A paid license silently re-validates every few days; everything else about the extension keeps working fully offline.

Permissions, explained

• tabCapture — to receive the tab's audio stream after you press Start. This is the entire point of the extension.
• offscreen — Chrome's mechanism for running the audio pipeline in the background while the popup is closed.
• activeTab + scripting — to draw the chord overlay on the tab you started capture on. Injection happens only on that tab, only after you press Start.
• storage — to save your settings and per-song detection caches locally.
• Microphone — not an extension permission; a standard browser microphone prompt you answer once, only if you choose Microphone mode. You can revoke it anytime from Chrome's site settings for the extension.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the effective date above will change with it, and material changes will be noted in the extension's and the app's release notes.
