Open G on a dobro is G B D G B D. Every open string is part of a G chord, which is what makes the bar work: lay it straight across any fret and you get a major chord. Lay it straight and in tune, anyway. That second part is the lifetime project.
| Fret | Chord |
|---|---|
| Open / 12 | G |
| 2 | A |
| 3 | Bb |
| 4 | B |
| 5 | C |
| 7 | D |
| 9 | E |
| 10 | F |
Find the I chord. The IV is five frets up from it, the V is seven frets up. Key of G: open, 5 and 7. Key of D: 7, 12 and 14 (or 7, 0 and 2 if you'd rather stay low). Minor chords take more than a straight bar, which is a whole other page.
The Chartless tuner has a dobro open G target, so each string shows how far it is from where open G wants it. Get the two G strings right first and the rest fall in around them.
